Rosso Piceno DOC

Rosso Piceno DOC: cellars and wine estates for sale in Marche

Rosso Piceno is a red wine produced in the Marche region, recognized with the Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC), which guarantees the quality and authenticity of the product according to a well-defined specification. Rosso Piceno DOC is made mainly from Montepulciano and Sangiovese grapes, which together produce a structured, balanced and richly scented wine.

The Rosso Piceno DOC production area extends along the hilly strip of the provinces of Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, Macerata and Ancona. The area is characterized by mixed soils, mainly clay, and a mild climate with good temperature ranges, ideal conditions for growing grapes. Within the appellation there is also the subzone "Rosso Piceno Superiore," limited to a small area in the province of Ascoli Piceno, known for wines of greater intensity and longevity.

The production of Rosso Piceno has historical roots dating back to Roman times, but it was in the 20th century that the wine began to stand out for its quality and personality. The DOC denomination was officially recognized in 1968, making it one of the oldest in the Marche region.
