Rosso di Montalcino DOC

The little brother of Brunello

Rosso di Montalcino is the younger brother of the better known Brunello, with which it shares the entire production area and composition, based exclusively on Sangiovese grapes. The appellation dates back to the 1960s (when the idea was to call it Rosso dai Vigneti di Brunello) and since then the wine has made a name for itself as an excellent product, fragrant and fresh and characterized by a much shorter ageing when compared to Brunello.

VINEYARDS, WINERY FOR SALE, BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO WINE

Tenuta Vinicola Montalcino

Located on a hilltop position, a stone’s throw from the famous Montalcino, historical Brunello di Montalcino wine estate with 16.2152 ha of vineyards: Brunello di Montalcino (7.6677 ha), Rosso di Montalcino (3.7532 ha) e Sant’Antimo Rosso (4.7943 ha).

The estate spans over 21.0 hectares (51.9 acres) of land (all directly owned, and not rented), located in two different spot roughly 5 km apart (10’). Owning two different lands in two different spots was a deliberate choice: in fact, a different exposure of the vineyards allows the wines to show specific characteristics based on the origin place of the grapes used.

The farmhouse at the center of the estate dates back to the end of the 19th century but the winery was only established in the 1950s and was one of the first to be part of the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG registry after its inception in 1966. Wines produced in the estate have been awarded over the years many prizes and great recognition on important magazines of the sector such as Wine Advocate (93/100), Vinum Extra (16.5 points) and Decanter Magazine (93/100).

The winery currently produces the following wines, that are then sold on the markets of Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States.

  • Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG: 100% Sangiovese
  • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG: 100% Sangiovese
  • Rosso di Montalcino DOC: 100% Sangiovese
  • Sant'Antimo Rosso DOC: 100% Sangiovese

The complex N°1 is made up of three buildings.

  • The building A lies onto two floors and has on the ground floor (73 m²) some storage rooms and a laundry, while on the first floor (73 m²) there are a living room, a kitchen, a closet, two bedrooms and a bathroom.
  • The building B is divided into two floors too and it is the construction hosting the cellar in the underground level (203 m²). On the ground floor there are the offices for the business, a sales area, a living room used as a tasting area, two bathrooms, two bedrooms and a kitchen.
  • Lastly, the building C is instead used as a storage room and garage (75 m²).

The complex N°2 (330 m²) is located in a nearby town and houses the bottling line and a warehouse where wine is stored before being put onto the market.

The complex N°3 (217 m²) is not directly owned but rented. Here we find another cellar and a storage room. The tenancy agreement is renewable on demand.

A project has been recently approved for the construction of a new wine cellar (1,600 m² in total) which would allow increasing the efficiency of wine-making, leading in turn to an increase in production by removing the need of renting a building for winemaking.

WINERY FOR SALE IN MONTALCINO, 3 HECTARES OF BRUNELLO VINEYARDS

Montis Elcini Vinea

In the Sienese countryside, not far from the renowned town of Montalcino, this wine estate covers a total surface of 51.9 hectares. In total, roughly 5.0 hectares of vineyards (3.0 ha Brunello di Montalcino DOCG + 1.5 ha Sant’Antimo IGT + 0.5 ha Rosso di Montalcino DOC) and two cellars allow producing a theoretical maximum of 38,500 bottles of wine per year. Finally, 1,200 olive trees produce approximately 1.5 tons of extra-virgin olive oil.

DESCRIPTION OF THE BUILDINGS

The historic building (580 m² – 6,241 ft²) includes on the ground floor the wine cellar, while on the upper floor are two guest apartments (with the possibility of creating a third one by reworking the existing spaces):

  • Apartment N°1: ample living room with fireplace, kitchen, two bedrooms and bathroom with whirlwind tub;
  • Apartment N°2: living room with cooking corner and double sofa-bed, bathroom with whirlwind tub.

The podere is then completed by a few agricultural annexes (130 m² – 1,399 ft²) and a newly-built cellar (140 m² – 1,506 ft²) with development possibilities (390 m² – 4,196 ft²). The buildings all have electricity, LPG tank, air conditioning and water from a private well (100 m depth) with a filtration system. A connection to the mains water (200 m from the property) is also available if interested.

The other podere includes a residential building (400 m² – 4,304 ft²) and a few annexes. The country house is provided with electricity, water and phone line but requires a complete renovation.

EXTERIORS

The estate, split between two poderi, covers a total surface of 51.9 hectares (128.2 acres).

Here we find 5.0 hectares of vineyards, registered as Brunello di Montalcino DOCG (3.0 ha), Sant’Antimo IGT (1.5 ha) and Rosso di Montalcino DOC (0.5 ha).

An olive grove (2.4 ha) with roughly 1,200 olive trees allows producing up to 1.5 tons of extra-virgin olive oil per year (1,630 liters).

The remaining surface is split among woodland (17.1 ha) and arable land (26.2 ha). The ample surfaces available could be exploited to plant new vines once planting rights have been obtained (roughly 26.0 hectares of land can be easily used for this). Planting rights have already been obtained for approximately 2.0 ha of Sant’Antimo IGT.
