Monferrato is one of the most historic and representative wine areas of Piedmont, located in the southeastern part of the region and extending across the provinces of Asti and Alessandria. The production area covers a vast and varied territory made up of numerous municipalities scattered across the Monferrato hills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its centuries-old viticultural heritage. The wine tradition of Monferrato is ancient, and the area now includes several important DOC and DOCG denominations, each reflecting the diversity of its landscapes and grape varieties. The region is characterized by rolling hills, marl and clay-limestone soils, and a continental climate influenced by nearby mountains and rivers. Vineyards are planted at altitudes generally between 150 and 450 meters above sea level, benefiting from excellent exposure and ventilation. Among the most common grape varieties cultivated in the Monferrato area are Barbera, Grignolino, Dolcetto, Brachetto, Freisa, Cortese, Moscato Bianco, and Chardonnay.

Wines from the Monferrato area are known for their remarkable range of styles and expressions. Red wines often display a lively ruby color, aromas of red berries, spices, and violets, and a dry, harmonious taste with good structure and acidity. White wines tend to be fresh and fragrant, with straw-yellow hues, floral and fruity notes, and a balanced, pleasant palate. The area also produces rosé wines, sparkling wines – both aromatic and traditional method – and dessert wines, making Monferrato one of the most versatile wine regions in Italy.

Monferrato Wine Estate

In one of the most fascinating and sought-after areas of Monferrato, a UNESCO Heritage Site, stands this historic 17th-century winery with manorial villa perfectly integrated into the landscape at 450 m asl, in the municipality of Serralunga di Crea. The historic heart of the property is the 17th-century cellar (1,788 m² – 19,239 ft²), now used as a barrique cellar, a fascinating and perfectly preserved environment that gives a strong identity value to the entire estate. Next to it is the modern production building developed on three levels:

Basement: processing rooms with stainless steel tanks and state-of-the-art winemaking technology, warehouses, bottling room, storage rooms, dressing room with WC, four sheds and a technical room with independent external entrance;
Ground floor: large and bright tasting room with fireplace, exposed beams and views of the vineyards, relaxation area also with fireplace and large windows that allow full enjoyment of the magnificent panorama, commercial area, kitchen, two offices, three toilets with hallway and three additional rooms.
